Boy was I pleasantly surprised! I don't if pleasant is actually the right word because more than anything else I was horrified as I read this 500 page drama. I kept telling my husband, "I've been alternately crying and throwing up in my mouth a little at every page." I guess it's the mark of a good book that produces such an emotion.
Turns out I am so emotionally distraught over the book I haven't slept much in the past week and can't even begin to think about reviewing it for the site. As the mother of an 11 month old, this book just sent shockwaves through me over the importance of positive, involved parenting. Sure I already knew it was a big deal to be actively involved in your child's life but I just didn't realize to what extent a little person's life can be dictated by their parents not doing the right thing in a bad situation. If there is one major lesson to learn from this story (and there about 300 major lessons at the least) it's that parents should love their children for who they are, never compare them to anyone else, and NEVER NEVER NEVER turn a blind eye to problems at school or one day your child may become the culprit of the problem.
Every teacher, parent, teenager, and guidance counselor - plus the whole rest of the world - should be required to read this book.
