So I recently reviewed a book called Ripples on the Lake by Dawn Rotarangi. I also was able to interivew Dawn which was really neat because this is my first foray into the paranormal genre.
And let me say - it was really good! I'm definitely a "scaredy cat" about movies, any story really, that deals with ghosts or the supernatural. I've been known to stay up for nights on end after watching something really frightening (Poltergeist anyone?) and I still call a certain movie I watched in 8th grade the "C-Man" because saying the title would just be too terrifying for me.
It was with much trepidation that I began Ripples, certain I would be losing sleep. Turns out, it WAS a good thriller and it WAS paranormal and I DID stay up at night over it but not because of what you think. The supernatural element was interesting and kept me on the edge of my seat and left me wanting to know more background about the legend the book centers around. The reason I was up at night was due to the fact that I was pondering the possibility of something like this actually happening. I don't want to give anything away so suffice to say it was a great "first read" of this genre and I definitely recommend it!
